Creaky headliner...easy fix!

Not sure how common this issue is, but I've noticed it in my Velar on and off since delivery. It's fairly widespread in the F-Pace, and it was on their forum that I discovered a fix.

Basically, sometimes over uneven payment, up inclines, etc....I'd get a creaking/crackling sound from the ceiling. Initially I assumed it was the pano sunroof flexing and ignored it. It turns out it was the headliner. The grab handles mounted on the ceiling are bolted too tightly, causing the headliner to flex against the car frame and creak. On each of the grab handles there are two T30 torx bolts under small covers that you can pry open with your fingers or something small like a flathead screwdriver. I loosened all the screws by a half turn, relieving the tension on the headliner. Creaks are gone. Thank you F-Pace forums.

That's what it was. Was checking all the trim and even the roof. Can anyone confirm that the seals are okay because for some reason my seals on the roof are weird. It goes from flush to under the panel to flush to under the panel again before becoming flush again.

Yeah, mine are the same. I've noticed when washing the car. I don't think it's a source of noise; at least not that I've noticed.

I thought I had solved it by loosening the grab handles but I guess I was wrong. Today the outside temp climbed up to 24C and sunny and the creaking sounds are back. It does sound like the sunroof flexing and I'm not fully convinced the grab handles are necessarily the culprit here. Clueless as to what to do next. The local dealer tells me to bring the car in and leave it there for a couple days for thorough inspection but seeing as how the summer is over now and most days the problem isn't really there, I guess I'll have to wait till next year. The noise only presents itself on warmer days and it's been mostly absent the last few weeks...

I only have 1 year of warranty left and I wonder why the issue didn't show last year... :/

I have the same problem with my 2020 Velar. My dealership's service manager said that he has seen this problem before and it is due to a loose wiring harness. With that said, he fixed it but the problem returned just two days later. Frustrating. Would like to know if anyone else has experienced this issue and if so, how it was resolved.

Sound tends to resonate in strange ways inside cars. I've been having these pop/crack/creak sounds and I'm convinced it's the way the tailgate is aligned. Pressure in the wrong spots I think pushes on the light bar across the tailgate. I've taken a tip from another section of this forum and put some tape around the tailgate striker (the thing the latch grabs onto) and that solved it for a little while. Tape doesn't last too long so back to the dealer it goes... (19.5 SVA)

I also think some of it comes from the plastic d-pillar covers and the rear spoiler. Both are thin plastic and creak and squeak when they rub together. I was getting horrible squeaking when going over bumps and it turned out to be that. I had to unscrew the spoiler and put some cloth where it meets the d-pillars to prevent the two plastic pieces from rubbing together when the body flexes. It helped quite a bit but I still get some creaks and squeaks.

I guess my headliner is more of a rattle on anything but smooth pavement. Sound comes from mid cabin.
Mine goes in today, I will share what the service department comes up with. I was going to attach a short video clip, but guess I can't.

Update, my headliner rattle was due to the panoramic shade being in the full parked position for the winter months. Once some tension was on the shade, it went away. Service department agreed it was not right, but told me squeaks and rattles are only covered under warranty for 12 months. That is a first for me, but the Velar is my first JLR vehicle. So, I am not fully parking the shade.

There just seems to be too much flex in the body of this vehicle. Turning into driveways and always hearing small creaks and groans drives me bananas. I've had the dealer re-torsion the strut braces (has fixed a regular pop/knock), but I still get creaking from the headlining over driveway entries, plus the odd 'pop' from the rear (again when going into driveways at an angle) which sounds like something plastic popping in and out of place. Maybe the tail light cluster? Or the rear spoiler? Sounds plasticky.

I get a regular knocking from the same circumstances. Sounds like a seat belt knocking against door trim (which it isn't). Rarely happens ovee bumps in the road. I don't have any creaking though which is a blessing.

When I got my new Velar I had an odd rattle from the vicinity of one of the grab handles. When I checked the two screws attaching them to the roof they were both finger tight. Tightened up and rattle gone. Sounds like JLR's assembly of this part is a bit inconsistent....
