Velar remote start

Can anyone tell me how their remote start works?
I am able to start my 2020 Velar with the app on my iPhone.
But when I get in to the vehicle it shuts off.

The message on the dash reads "press brake pedal to select gear. Engine started remotely"

From here anything I do shuts off the vehicle, whether I step on the brake pedal or activate the power steering.

Maybe that is normal, but it seems like my dash wouldn't read that message. My previous Land Rover did not shut off but instead let me step on the brake and put it in to drive.

2020 Velar. Just picked up a couple months ago.
US model.

Thanks!

This seems to be by design now across the range, as my 2020 Evoque does exactly the same. The latest ICTP update and vehicle software update didn't change the behaviour either.

I can understand its a safety feature to stop someone jumping in and just driving away, but the message on the screen is obviously incorrect. Its also annoying that it used to work, but doesn't on our newer build vehicles.

Touching any pedals in the car when its running causes the engine to immediately turn off. You then have to restart it by pushing the Start/Stop ignition button.

Just to say, that's not what happens with me. I unlock & I get in the car, that message is displayed - I press the brake pedal and the car comes alive ready for driving.
The thing that pees me off is, in my F Pace it used to turn the heated seats on but it doesn't in the Velar (unless it's a secret setting that I m yet to find?)

MY19 ~ England.
Yeah I've got mine set to turn the front & rear windows on when it's below a certain temperature.

Does your Velar have a new style gear stick? If so, this must be to ensure safety to prevent someone breaking in and driving away!
The old style pop up gear selector is not accessible until the car detects the key and the brake pedal is pressed. So there is no risk of car theft when the remote engine start is running.
I suspect this must be the reason in the new Evoque too!

Updated to 20C, remote start still works as before, ie press brake, car wakes up and engine keeps running.

Another selective bug from JLR?

When I was first using remote start last winter (on 19B software) it just worked as expected; start, open door, jump in, press break pedal and off you go. The first time I used it one cold morning a couple of weeks ago (I think it was on V20B) the engine stopped when I pressed the brake pedal and this surprised me because I wasn't expecting it to do that but I couldn't be sure if I'd done something different. I hadn't used it since then but I think the car is now on V20C. After reading this thread I decided to try it again yesterday morning and it worked in the same way as it did with 19B. I'll keep testing it to see if continues to work as expected to make sure there's no other variable affecting it

Mine is still the pop-up style.
Did you open the boot before you got in the car, by any chance.
I have noticed previously that while the remote start is running, if I open the boot to load something, the engine turned off straight away. This didn't not happen with opening any other door. I assumed that this might be prevent file fume entering the car as the engine is running.
Have any one else noticed this?

Yes mine does the same. Boot lid switches it off but other doors are ok. If I want to load something I open a door first and close it, THEN open the boot lid and the engine stays running.

On the previous discussion - If you don't have the key in your pocket and press a pedal the engine also cuts off anyway so don't understand how the new way of always cutting the engine even with the key is any more secure.

Used my remote start for the first time today and it worked exactly the same as it did in my previous XF Sportbrake.
IE Engine started and heater was on and front and rear heated screens. I opened the car by pressing door button and engine continued running and when I pressed the brake pedal the rest of the car seemed to wake up with gear selector rising and lights coming on and the sun blind rolled back as with a normal start. Really appreciated the heated steering wheel which is an accessory I have never had on any car. Very pleased.

Same here, tested this morning and can confirm that I have software update 20C installed. Remote works as ever. It does not stop the engine. I opened the driver's door, jump in, press down on the brake and everything in the car comes alive. Perfect. So this must be another 'development' on the newer model year cars.

Edit: check with your dealer. I think all Velars in the UK come with this functionality - you download the Land Rover remote app from the App Store, free of charge. I have it on my iPad, my Samsung S10+ and the family have it on their Apple phones. It enables you to preheat or air condition the car, depending on the season, by setting the desired cabin temperature from the app. It will also defrost the front and rear screens as well as the side mirrors.

Nice!
