There's a good article here that explains the process, you can cancel but have to pay 50% of the Total Amount Payable.

Yes, you have to download the complete map set via a PC each time an update is released.

I had same message, tried again with a different USB stick & been OK since. Original stick worked once or twice before giving up, and still works ok when plugged into PC.
I have music on the second stick & that hasn’t (yet) affected map updates.

Be aware that thieves have allegedly used sat nav home functions to locate a property to burgle when they managed to steal car & keys away from home.

You need to expand the note in the manual to get the full picture:
“For vehicles fitted with a navigation system, for each ignition cycle, the hand of traffic resets according to the region in which the vehicle is being driven.”

No, the lights use the sat nav to determine which way to dip.
