I realise this topic has been done to death over the past 5 years and maybe because I have read so many posts about it this could be the reason, I’m so confused and frustrated. Any help would be much appreciated.
Background
I have a 2017 D300 HSE Velar
My local dealer tells me the software is all up to date, yet I can’t see the option to check which version is installed. They have offered to do a complementary software health check and I am booked in for next month.
I have Apple Carplay (and Android) show up in the connections screen
I have carplay listed in the Incontrol apps (saying connect a device)
I have the connection panel with HDMI, Sim card slot and 2 x USB ports in the centre box.
I have 2 x Apple USB to Lightening cables
I have set the restricted USB option in iPhone settings to on
I have the Apple iPhone 12 pro max phone with the latest software running
I connect the cable to the USB socket and the phone
It recognises the phone and gives the message of connecting to iPhone then after a few seconds I get the message “connection failed, please disconnect the cable and or restart the device"
I have tried restarting the phone, changing cables, changing USB sockets, switching ignition on/off, switching the restricted |USB on/off but cannot get any further.
I have contacted other dealers and LR customer services and got a variety of responses
LR Customer services – sorry sir your Velar is not compatible with carplay
LR Dealer – yes sir you need a software update at a cost of 1hr labour (£172 + VAT)
LR Dealer - We have checked your car and its software is all up to date so you should be able to connect your phone for carplay
LR Specialist – This is a Full Dealer only update and its FOC
I have heard that the dongle Carlinkit is the answer, but they say as a prerequisite it must work with a cable first so wary about spending out £100 for something that might not work.
Help please
