While no prices have been released yet, if Land Rover splits the difference between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, then it could compete against the Porsche Macan and possibly even both the BMW X4 and X6.

Given the positioning, the newcomer is likely to slot straight into the £30,000-wide price gap between the most basic Evoque and the entry-level Range Rover Sport; that should give the Velar a starting figure of around £45,000.

£45k for a basic no frills though :( The entry to this is not far from when the RRS began its life. Very clever by LR.

Hope they do the test drives again like the Evoque launch. Loved the shows and the drive at York racecourse.

Yeah, this is speculation at the moment but it's probably somewhere close. The trend at the moment is to move models into the next price bracket, opening up a gap which can be filled with a new model.

I think at that price it will sell right if it has the right balance of on-road dynamics and off-road capability (Even if no one will use it, it's still a Range Rover)

It could tick a lot of boxes for me and it's built in Britain and supports British suppliers - even better!
