I'm new to the Land Rover world and have been an Audi TT fan for the last 2 years
After so many complaints from friends and family I decided to venture into the LR showroom in a Lewes. I know it's Sabline to rediculas but I fell in love with the new discovery. Placed my order for the HSE at mear £62k. 5 days later stumbled across the Velar on line and changed my mind and switched my order - even without seeing her in the flesh. Oh I have omitted to say I changed the discovery order 8 times and drove the poor salesman mad ( Peter ) with my indecisions but felt I had made the right choice as "did I really need a 7 seater beast" compared to what I was used to with a TT that took 2 medium size adults under 6' and a midget in the back !!!!! Obviously I've amended my Velar order a few times now but happy with what I've finally gone for. The R-Dynamic SE D240 in Kaikoure Stone with additional Air suspension and 22" Wheels.
Now all I have to do is sit back and wait till September for it to arrive. I've now promised the garage I will not make any change as it was driving me mad with indicisions and obviously the poor sales guy.
BUT! .........! After reading some posts on Twitter saying it's much smaller then expected, pictures are nothing in the flesh compared to the design museum launch, added to a comment that the finish inside was lower quality with a lot of plastic compared to the Discovery HSE all makes me think I should switch back to the New Discovery !!!!! I wish I had never read the reviews and seriously think I need locking up !!! I'm going to view the Velar tomorrow in Canary Wharf with my daughter and pray to god I'm going to love it. If it's not up to expectation it looks like another call to poor Peter in Lewes (
Is there anybody else as bad as me I wonder !!!

The Velar was just outside Cabary Wharf station. Previous comments were it's so much smaller then expected. I would agree it's smaller than a RR and defiantly the New Discovery but I would say perfect for me, plenty of space in the front and I'm 6' 1" with my daughter who's also tall sitting behind had plenty of room. The LR Sales guy showed my round the controls and have to say it was awsome !!! The layout was superb and screens were of very high resolution making the icons displayed look like fixed images but in fact were part of the display. It's very futureistic and looked totally amazing. It had 21" wheels which come as standard I believe on the HSE model which showed the car off really well. I can't wait till September when I hope to take ownership. The reversing camera even had its own water jet to keep the lense clean ! I don't think the black showed off the car to its full potential to be honest and a metallic should have been chosen in my mind. All in all an amazing car.

What did you think of the Textile Pack? The suede steering wheel?
The Santorini Black makes it look lower, smaller and stealthier, don't you think? And, you are right, its way big enough for most people and, as the LR Rep said to me, its not as though LR don't make bigger cars if you need that.
Above all it has an amazing feel-good factor dosen't it?
I was again a little surprised by the poor quality of the door sills, the boot sill, and on that car the material on the upper dash. But, again, you can spec up to avoid those.
For me, at 6'2", I was also again pleased to see I was sitting IN the car not in a kind of "I'm driving a tractor" position so favoured by RR Classic and RRS drivers. Hate being in an overly conspicuous car. Who wants that? The whole car blends in better than I was worrying about before. No good feeling like a complete plonker, is there?

I know Peter well, he sold me my Evoque when i had it, hes a great sales guy and knows how to look after customers and customer service, something the Jaguar side of Harwoods seem to struggle with.

Yes i am from the Fpace forum and keeping an eye on the Velar, having come from a Range Rover to the Jaguar i know the Range Rover stable well.

As for quality i will have to see the Velar in the flesh as its coming off the same production line as the Fpace where as my previous Range Rovers did not so quality could suffer but until you see one we just will not know.
