Apple CarPlay

Post by Marco » Sun Feb 18, 2018 10:34 pm

Hi all,

As we all know Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t available in our precious Velars.
So while Looking through the owners manual today I was mighty surprised when I,
Under the “In Control”section, under “ Functions” , found Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Listed as available functions under the “smartphone pack” section.
( I live in Sweden so it’s the Swedish Manual I’m referring to. )
What’s up with that ?!

Just checked the online UK owners manual and found the same information there...

It's just JLR future proofing their manuals so they don't need to reprint when they do add it! Apparently a firmware update can add this capability.

Hi Velarman,

We are many around who are eager about getting Apple car play. Since JLR is keeping us totally in the dark about all software upgrades and ACP in particular, may I ask what is your source about the JLR's capability to make this possible only by an upgrade, i.e without any hardware add-on ?

That's good news. thanks for this one. We 'll have to be patient then. Imagine one day : you turn on your car plug your phone and voila : Waze on the big screen !

no I must be going too fast here. surely someone will cut the access to waze otherwise, how could car manufacturer sell +2k€ their satnav /navteq on board GPS etc...

When I say over the air I meant via a firmware update at the dealer - it wont need new hardware AFAIAW.

The prototype I saw had CarPlay /Android Auto. When I quizzed the JLR engineer about it, he said it wasn’t going to be in launch due to licensing issues.

Wish I took a photo now!

As Velarman says, likely to be a software upgrade but I reckon we will be charged for it.
