22" 9 split-spoke 'Style 9007'

Post by paull1210 » Fri Jan 25, 2019 2:37 pm

Afternoon Everyone,
New member here so be gentle please.
I have found this forum to be very useful in my attempt to finalise my specification so thank you for that, more so than the stealers to be sure
Does anyone have the 22" 9 split-spoke 'Style 9007 fitted to a D300 SE R Dynamic and if so do you regret it or not?
Thanks in advance

My First Edition came with 9007s.

Do I regret them? Probably not.

Would I specify them? Probably not..

“They” reckon that the ride is not as good on 22s, but TBH with the air suspension I’ve never found the ride lacking in any way.

The downsides of them is that:

Being diamond finished, should you damage them they are not an easy fix.

With low profile tyres, there isn’t much sidewalk protection against kerbs or potholes/ruts if you’re going off road. Hence the probability of damage can be high if you’re not really careful (if you intend to go off road in a semi serious way, then I’d definitely not go for any 22 inch wheels)

The range of tyres to choose from is much more limited - particularly if you’re looking for an off road biased tyre or a full winter tyre

On the upside, they look fabulous!

Thank you for the reply, I don't really go off road to be honest. I like the 9 split spoke 22" design and was struggling to find another one I like and don't really want black wheels, I think the choice is a bit limited.
Your Velar looks stunning by the way, thanks for sharing the pic

I find that the supplied continental tyres provide a lot of rim protection
It has definitely saved me a few times

Looks cool. The best rims available for the Velar imo.

I went for the 22” 9007 wheels with the single tone silver colour when ordering my Velar last January. Purely for the reason that if I scratched the alloys, they would be much harder and more expensive to repair.

Very happy with the look and even the ride quality even with these large wheels.

I have the Pirelli scorpion winter tyres and continental summer tyres and they drive well. I prefer the Pirelli’s for a smoother ride to be honest surprisingly!

I went for the 5047’s in diamond, which gave the two colour contrast as well as partly for the slightly larger sidewall being 21” and also at the time they were a no cost item for the HSE 😃,
10 months down the line and no marks whatsoever (famous last words🙄)

Thanks for the replies, had another look at my local dealer today and have decided to go with the 22" 9 split-spoke 'Style 9007 option, another £2k

You can easy go to 275/40/R22 which is more popular tyre size ! Appearance will be much more aggressive and sportier of course

width of this rim is 9J and I thought 265 is maximum width it can be fitted. is 275 ok with 9007?
