Hello From Northumberland: D300 RDynamic HSE

Post by TomR16 » Fri Jun 25, 2021 5:07 pm

Hi All

I've recently bought a new to me 2018 D300 R-Dynamic HSE. I used this forum a lot to research my purchase so would like to thank those of you who have posted here for your time taken to do so.

I've had it a few weeks now and can't fault it, it's a great car to drive. My last car was a RRS but I've had allsorts over the years, various M3s, M6, Porsche 911s etc Each car has had its own merits but this Velar is just stunning. I can see now why most people rave about them..!

It took a fair while to find one in the right colour combo (for me) c/w the Head Up Display but I got there in the end.!

Here she is in all her glory:

Hello,
I’m the same, just bought my first Velar last week, a D300 like yours but in black with a 2018 plate.
Absolutely love it, and it’s fully loaded with extras including electric deployable side steps, retractable pan roof, electric seats front and rear etc, etc.
I have an early issue though…the battery warning light has come on and it’s only been left on the drive just less than 5 days even after a long 280 mile drive, now on trickle charge, surely it shouldn’t have battery drain after 5 days?
I can only guess something is draining it from somewhere.
Anyone else had these issues with battery drain within a short few days?

Very nice. I agree the HUD is one of those options that you can't do without, once you have driven a car with one.

If it has been stood at a dealer for a while it may need more than a 280 mile drive. Try a battery conditioner (CTEC). I have used one all through lockdown on my Mercedes but many others have experienced what you are seeing.

Might be worth asking the dealer to check the charging settings. It’s been reported on other threads here that sometimes the recharge setting on the alternator is set too low and it doesn’t fully charge the battery.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks ‘Haybrd’ might be worth me popping into the dealer to try and rectify this, seems very odd at nearly 5 days of no use the battery warning light comes on.
Will keep you posted.

Definitely worth the ask. Keep us posted.

Mine has been fine when left for 2 weeks before (when holidays were allowed 😂 ) but with all the electrics the car does drain the battery a lot, especially if left unlocked.
