Differential lock icon

Post by moonlitknight » Fri Jun 15, 2018 5:04 pm

Does anybody know exactly what they differential lock icon under off road information actually means? It's typically unlocked or the bottom left quadrant is brown. Sometimes I see brown from the 6 o'clock to the 1 o'clock positions.

I don’t understand what you mean.
Can you post a picture?

Two differentials, uno is the center one, the other (on the bottom) is the rear one

The differential controls slip between the left and right side to maximize traction in wet/slippery/off-road conditions. The lock icon just shows when it’s engaged or not.

Sure I get the purpose of the feature. What I'm asking is the significance of the differing arcs of the brown area.

Understood. There’s no reference to the color change I could find in the manual, so not sure, but would assume it means the differential is “active(ly)” doing something. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you find out, please post back.

The diffs are not on/off switches, but progressively tighten/loosen to control the delivery of power between front and back axles, and left and right wheels on the rear axle. So the arc tells you to what extent the diff is locked. If the colouring on the rear one switches side, it may (I'm guessing) be indicating which wheel is losing traction.
