"SERVICE REQUIRED" - 3600 miles in D300 engine

Post by SpokenHands » Thu Aug 30, 2018 9:27 pm

I get a SERVICE REQUIRED notice when I turn on the ignition.

I cannot work out what specifically needs attention - looked in the vehicle information section of the Instrument Panel but nothing there.

No warning lights on the dashboard.

Car is fitted with the D300 engine and has done 3600 miles in 4 months so definitely not a scheduled service.

Does anyone know what this is?
Is it to do with the reported "Oil Dilution due to failed DPF regeneration" issue discussed by user J77?
Or just an Ad-blue top up?
Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi, i think You drive too much short trips, so the dpf can't regenarate and the Diesel diluate the engine oil.. big problem on Mazda's 10 years ago..

My guess is oil dilution

I do short journeys, never had an issue with any DPF equipped LR until the D5, my EU6 D4 was faultless, it’s service warning came on 28 days roughly before service due and still stating 11,000 miles of AdBlue. D5 owners are suffering it whether they are high or low mileage users.

I ain’t an expert but I believe it’s to do with DPF not getting hot enough due to its position, therefore taking longer to due a regen and then getting interrupted, for example, you’ve reached your destination.

The DS and Evoque 2.0 are having issues with this but so far my 2.0 Velar is on target.

I thought the problem discussed by user J77 only applies to the transversely-engined models, not the Velar.

3600 Miles that’s nuts!

Mine started telling me at 9600 with same engine however and this is wierd - it told me for a week gradually counting down the miles but now it doesn’t tell me the service is due which is well strange.

So rang the service centre and the booking person was immediately able to say this was potentially oil dilution but said the car is safe to drive for the 3 weeks before she can offer me a service appointment!!

3600 miles in 4 months is about average I would say but Yes, several short trips on narrow B roads and in town so not getting up to high speeds. But still very odd that a modern Euro6 engine cannot passive regenerate properly.

Do not see you mention what your DEF level was. Easy to check in the service menu.

Switch on the ignition. See 132,
SWITCHING ON THE IGNITION.
2. Press the OK button repeatedly on the
steering wheel control until Driver
Assistance is displayed.
3. Using the down arrow button on the
steering wheel control, scroll down to
highlight Vehicle Info.
4. Press the OK button to confirm
selection.
5. Scroll down to highlight Next Service.
6. Press the OK button to confirm
selection. The Diesel Exhaust Fluid
range and refill volume is displayed.

Very strange but I cannot find the NEXT SERVICE link under the VEHICLE INFO tab in the Informational Panel Menu.

The OIL LEVEL also shows as not available.

Make sure ignition is on but engine not running. Engine needs to be up to normal operating no temperature. Turn engine off but leave ignition on. Should get an oil level reading after about 2 to 5 minutes. Just make sure car is patched on level ground.

How is that an advance on opening the bonnet and using the dip stick? :-)
