Disabling keyless entry (prevent theft)

Post by Mattyp » Sat Sep 22, 2018 11:13 pm

Hi all,
Not sure if this has been posted before, but after some searching I’ve found out how to disable keyless entry, I didn’t realise it was something you could do.
With the key inside car and door open, press headlight button 3 times, then unlock button. Then just lock car with fob as normal.
I have a ghost immobiliser on my car anyway, but at least it help to prevent relay theft and anyone entering your car.
I know you now have to manually (press button) unlock car, but I think I prefer this option!
If anyone knows if any problems can arise from doing this, let me know.
Thanks
Matt

I have just enabled 2 stage opening, so only the drivers door is opened by keyless entry. The rest of the doors need a button pressed to open them.

I use the faraday cage pouch. Didn't bother to disable it as this is very useful feature for me everytime walking to the car. Over a month owning the car, I only pressed the unlock lock button on keyfob for 2 times 😀

2 stage opening won’t stop people opening your car and driving it away, most cars are stolen because of keyless entry systems via transmitter relay, With the keyless disabled they would have to smash a window and physically climb through the window to start your car. Which would trigger the alarm at the least. I’ve got a ghost immobiliser fitted as well, car can’t be taken even with keys.. but at least this stops them opening the door to even try
The problem I’ve seen with the faraday pouches is for some reason they lose effectiveness over time.
Not sure why that would be. But don’t fully trust them. At the end of the day.. if they want your car badly enough, they will take it, my friends 2018 rr sport was taken through relay theft.. all caught on cctv, took them about 30 seconds and all done silently

Very clever attack. You can make it less likely by keeping car keys further from house perimeter or in a metal box/faraday cage.

It is a very specialised attack so I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it...if the bad guys really want it they will find a way to get it.

Good tip

Though only works for me if the ignition is switched on.

Same method, but press the LOCK button instead of the UNLOCK button

What do you guys mean by the headlight button? The button on the end of the headlight stalk or the rotary button to change the headlight settings?
