Fuel consumption P300

Post by Harryeast » Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:43 am

I have driven 7.000km in almost one year with my Velar HSE P300 (Petrol Engine).

Time to do a fuel consumption test with the goal to do my upmost best to get the most economic result.
So last week I have driven to my work just on the motorway, continuously using my cruise control and not speeding faster than 125km/u.
I also was driving all week at the ECO modus.

Result;
Distance 414 km
Consumption 49 liters

So conclusion; 1 Liter : 8,44 km (11,8 lt / 100km) or (23,94 mpg)

My opinion; this is a very high fuel consumption for a new developed engine (P300), especially taking into account the driving conditions as mentioned above. To me reasonable should be 1:10 (10 lt/ 100km).

On the other side I don’t care as on the total of 7.000km it should only result in a saving of probably 175 lt yearly (based on € 1,6 cost price per Liter it just € 280,- a year). Better not to go in discussion when you’re driving a car of €128K ;)

It sounds about right, I have driven about 35k km, with an average of 11.6 l/100 km. I have to say, I’ m more of a sporty driver. The lowest consumption I saw was 8,5 l/100 km. That was driving with 90-100 km/h for hours.

I had Audi S3 with the 300 hp engine before. It wasn’t much more economical , despite being smaller and lighter (maybe 1-1,5 l/100 km ).

Looking at the remote app, I had over 30 mpg on a recent 18 mile journey (average speed checks most of the way).

On shorter journeys it usually reads anywhere between 10-20 mpg.

I drive in S most of the time and tend to put my foot down at every opportunity though.

I am awaiting P300 delivery. I would be most interested in other drivers’ data, in MPG if possible.

Thanks !

About 2000miles in
I normally get high 20s on motorway journeys and , and btw 10-20 on short journeys according to the app
Not quite cracked 30 yet
I normally drive in S or dynamic, and put my foot down whenever I can, in that mode the car feels very eager and jumps forward like a restrained race horse

Hey Guys! Interessting, my Velar P380 (6Cyl-380Hp) uses an average of 11,5l/100km and if I drive easy going it has a 9,x...shame that they stopped this engine in Germany...where is the advantage of the P300 if not in consumption...

Best

Had my p300 since last April (3100 miles)
I do short ish journeys in the week and some hour long ones most weekends. My average is 18.4 mpg on the dash. I’ve had it up to 36.5 mpg on an hours drive down to Colchester so not that bad I think.
Me and the lads are doing the fan dance in Brecon soon so I’ll see how it performs on a couple hundred miles.
i always use the V power petrol not sure if that makes any difference in real terms.

Completely agree with you. By the time I ordered, P380 was not available anymore. It sounds much better than the P300. Although I have to state that performance wise there is not much difference between the two either. I wish for a new 3.0 with 400ish hp and turbo(s). Despite the issues I have, it’s a great car, but lacks a bit of grunt.
