Does all of the Velar models have it? Or is that an optional. On mine there is not the hold assist and can't find any options. Maybe I'm looking on the wrong place!
there are two things... (1) the time out with the hill hold assist,. Here the hill hold assist works as it should, but the time out can cause an issue.
(2) And that the hill hold does not work between 2 and 6 degrees, regardless of any time out issue.
Vehicle does not perform as described or as advertised..
What annoys me is that you need to keep pushing the brake pedal even at stops by the traffic lights otherwise the car would still move further on. Not having a function like "automatic stop" or similar is incredible to me in such a car. Nowadays not having something like that drives me crazy

It's not automatic, but does allow you to take your foot off: just press the electronic parking brake button, and when you're ready to go, just press the accelerator and you're off. I do agree auto hold should be standard these days though.

Frustratingly when I took the LR technician out to show him the issue the car held itself in position! I had no explanation for it other than it has to be to do with the gradient. I think i'll just live with it and do the steering wheel trick.
Land Rover Website Evoque (new one): Enhanced Hill Hold - "The feature operates in Drive (D), Sport (S), and Reverse (R). Enhanced Hill Hold maintains a standstill position of the vehicle, preventing it from rolling away on a gradient. When activated, the feature holds the vehicle stationary on an incline after the brake pedal is released." http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/document/3G/2020/T19935/32714_en_GBR/proc/G2272650
Perhaps this will be a Velar (and RRS) upgrade or option soon?
When pulling away uphill, Hill Start Assist briefly holds the vehicle after the brake pedal is released, to allow time for the driver to press the accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal is pressed, Hill Start Assist smoothly releases the brake pressure, allowing the vehicle to pull away without rolling backward.
Hill start assist is not available if there is a Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) fault. See DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC) OFF (AMBER).
I've got an evoque now and the enhanced hill hold and on demand is so much better- resolves all these concerns. Press and squeeze it, or just press brake twice in traffic and I get a hold icon on the dash and the car is held. What's even better is it will stay in start stop until you touch the accelerator - start is much nicer aswell as it's MHEV.
I look forward to the Velar updates.

When I did my Experience drive last week the instructor mentioned the Hill Hold Assist and the fact it holds for "up to 3 seconds". He's been told by JLR that they are planning to roll out the "Enhanced" hold (car would stay where it is until the accelerator is pressed) for the Velar. He didn't know if this would be a new feature in new builds or would be a software update (I.e. could be retro-fitted)
Hi, I face the same hill start assist problem. I've tried to contact my local dealer as well as the importer but they just fob me off admitting there's a defect which isn't considered to be a disrepair . They've given me an official refusal to fix this defect despite the fact that the global warranty program must cover such things. It's obviously an engineering defect and it must be eliminated worldwide. I was luckless to purchase such a "raw" car. I thought 2 years of production were enough to get rid of all the failures (I bought mine in April 2019). In fact, they still exist and spoil the owners' nice impression and make our driving experience hazardous and risky.
Has anyone tried to bring an action against the dealers or the manufacturer? I'm planning to, as I'm fed up with the dismissive treatment I get for my money.
Hi, I am planning to take action, as this is a case of being missold.
If anyone reported this to the dealer prior to the 1st Sep 2018 please get in contact.
Do you feel like the Velar handled towing your boat well? We have a 22 Velar R Dynamic S. 4 cyl. Looking at purchasing a 21 ft boat with a total trailer and boat weight of 4080 lbs. Just trying to get affirmation that it will handle well.
I've been loaned a 2020 Discovery Sport whilst my Velar is in the dealership. On looking through the menu list I found under convenience settings a Brake Hold option which gives choices of On Demand or Enhanced. Are there any 2020 Velar owners out there that have this same menu/function and if so does it work? Thanks

I have a MY2020 and don't have this option. I believe from what I've read this feature was added to the new Evoque and DS in response to the feedback from owners. Presumably they will roll it (excuse the pun) out across the range now?
I dont think it is a defect, it is a specification. It is standard on many German cars but was not designed in to the Velar.
But if you have the All Terrain package, as an example, hill assist works.
I am not sure it is a specification on the other versions - did you see something about 'Hill Assist' in the manual?
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
