Gutted...

Post by AnthHFC » Thu Apr 25, 2019 9:42 pm

A month old and a lad not concentrating smashed into the back of my wife. Good thing is considering the damage to the Volvo the Velar stood up well. I had a non fault crash 3 years ago and my premium went up nearly 1k so now I'm looking to sort without going through insurance which really bugs me as I pay for full claims protection and additional legal protection but it I end up paying through the nose on premiums for the next few years so now I have the hassle of sorting everything... Glad it wasn't more serious.

Usually if they are 100% at fault your insurance never needs to be involved in the claim, this is experience from the US.

Commiserations. The problem with shunts like this is the hidden damage under your plastic bumper, although that's largely spung back into place, you floor pan can be badly damaged. Make sure it goes back to the dealer for repair.

In the UK even if its 100% there fault and goes through there insurance we are apparently more at risk of another non fault accident hence the hike in insurance premium at your next renewal.. I think its shocking how insurance companies get away with it but they do...

Yeah I've said I want it done at a range rover repair shop, they are letting me know tomorrow as he was a sales man at a dealership that hit us with a car they had just sold and he was just putting some petrol in it..

No doubt they will offer to repair your car at no cost etc etc. I had a similar situation a while back but I pressed to have the car fixed properly at the Audi body shop, never regretted it.

Agree with Yasmar , someone my wife works with gently bumped the rear of her car and we had the rear bumper & light repaired for a couple of hundred quid ,about 6 months later when getting the spare wheel out I found a crease in the boot floor. ( ps the guy is probably an ex salesman now !)

I’d go through the insurance. Judging by the damage to the Volvo (built like tanks ) I’d make sure it was repaired through the correct channels. My daughter was driven into last year and as she was a new driver . I managed not to go through her insurance but claimed through the person who caused it. As a result no increase in her premium thank god.

Might be worth a try as the person who caused it is banged to rights.

A major bug bear of mine. Getting conned for choosing additional costs for insurance that does **** all to protect you in the event that someone else hits you. No claims protection my arse!!!

I once had a truck back into my parked car in a hotel car park and ended up paying loads more insurance fees for the privilege.

And don’t get me started on utilities companies...

Still, on the other hand it feels good to own a Range Rover doesn’t it..... :D
