Rear Spoiler Corner Trims "Fading"

Post by MBvelar » Sun Jul 21, 2019 11:32 am

The two black plastic corner trims on the rear spoiler have started to fade to a white/grey colour !

As anyone else seen this ?

Very hard to comment from looking at the picture - presume it was a contract black roof trim that is beginning to fade/grey?
In this case, do not have the problem at all.

Presume it is just
[1] very heavily scratched from washing which has taken the gloss off, or much more likely;
[2] some kind of solvent or intensive tar cleaner used by a hand car wash place that has reacted with the plastics and causing them to cloud/fade

Is the trim a bit rougher to touch (compared to other plastic trims) - it is probably [2].

A detailer *may* be able to sand polish some of the clouding but it wont go away entirely.
You're probably looking at a refit/respray - and then do wrap it with a PPE film (clear, gloss) that many of us have done.

Sorry, mate. Not a manufacturing thing - certainly not with mine

I only wash with Autoglym products ! which i think would not cause this.

Car as been sat in direct sun-light over the last few weeks, which makes me think the sun as possibly bleached these parts.

Its only the two corner trim parts the rest of the plastic trims are fine. I'll see what the dealer thinks to it next week !

Super resin polish should sort that.

I have seen a couple of those come through and warranty both of them. The ones that I saw looked as if the factory shipping protection left marks they eventually caused a discoloring of the material.

Yeah mine did the same. Was definitely nothing I did, and the car is garaged at home and work. They replaced it under warranty, no questions asked.

Mine is being replaced tomorrow. Service manager said it was from the packing they use when the vehicle ships, all covered under warranty.

Mention to my dealer, but they didn't want to know !!

In the end I tried polishing them which did help a little.
