D180 performance?

Post by Noc101 » Sat Aug 03, 2019 3:53 pm

Hi folks

I’m new to the forum and am about to pull the trigger on a new D180 R Dynamic HSE and am slightly concerned about the size of the engine. It feels a bit slow and wanted to get your thoughts on what it’s like day to day?

Any issues I should be aware of? Does it feel sufficiently powerful on the motorway etc given the size of the car?

Many thanks

I have had no problems with mine, Fast enough for all our roads unless you want to be a racing driver. :D

It’s an SUV... i find my current D180 plenty for the style of driving suited to the Velar.

Saying that I have just ordered a D240, however this was purely because I wanted air suspension, not that there's anything wrong with the coils, I just fancied a change.
Current R-Dynamic D180 S with a few extras successfully rejected.

On order:
D275 R-Dynamic HSE, Firenze Red, Heated Steering Wheel (a must after missing it out on the old car) Dynamic Pack, Black Roof, Privacy Glass.

Ive got no complaints with mine. It’s no SVR but it’s quiet and comfortable at all speeds I achieve. I don’t think there’s a massive difference between the 180 and 240 anyway. You can always have it re-mapped if you weren’t totally happy.

I had 2 F-Pace D180 and now a Velar D240.
The D180 is strong enough and unless you want to overtake cars super quickly on small roads it’s fine.
I actually don’t feel a huge difference on the D240.
The thing is that you can’t get the air suspension on the D180 which is a shame as it’s the best option.

I went for the D275 for mid range pull needed when overtaking on my usual back roads. I had a d180 on test and I found that it didn't quite have enough to get round slower cars in my usual overtaking spots. I was coming from a BMW M140i in fairness though. I wanted air suspension as well.

I have owned both!

In my honest opinion, under normal driving if you were to take a test drive in both without knowing then you would really need to look at the badge on the back to tell the the difference between them

Get the 180 and spend the money you save on better wheels or other options

Many thanks all, much appreciated ! Looks like a pretty unanimous view that the d180 is a decent engine as a daily driver. I’m changing from a Q8 so wanted to be sure the engine won’t be too underwhelming.

It will be fine, as said only reason I’m changing to a D240 is for air suspension.
