D275 MPG......

Post by Milky400 » Mon Aug 12, 2019 5:39 pm

All,

I’ve currently got an order in for a D240 and thinking of changing to the D275.

What’s the real life mpg going to be like? Currently have a D180 and the fuel economy is brilliant.

Cheers.

Commuting in traffic my D275 gets mid to high 20s. On a decent motorway run high 30s is easily achievable if not into the low 40s. I only do about 6k a year though so fuel economy isn't important.

I like the mid range power and refinement of a 6 cylinder engine. I thought the 4 cylinder d180 was a bit coarse when worked hard and lacked the power I've been used to in my recent cars. I'm sure it would of been fine though in hindsight and maybe a d240 is sensible middle ground.

What you getting out of the 180 Milky?

I’m only getting 300 to a tank round the doors, 98% Eco Data figures so doing everything right.

Average mid to upper 30’s mixed driving and upper 40’s on a run. I can get into 50’s taking it very steady.

I’m not after ground braking performance, I have a TVR Tuscan for that. It was more about having that bit of mid range grunt when you need it and the extra refinement of the V6. Just concerned I’ll get hammered on poor MPG.

I fully concur with what punkatron1 says about mpg figures, power and refinement , I have done 4.5k since mid March delivery.

My last few new cars have all been Audi v6 diesel saloons so i was hoping for the same refinement, but obviously expecting a bit less on the economy. The Velar is sitting just where i expected it to be .

When looking at which car to buy I drove a Disco Sport and a Jaguar F pace with the D180 , both with wife and two kids on board and didnt find them lacking in any way. I asked the Jag salesman what he thought about the 240 , he said obviously its the same engine but more highly tuned and in real world driving a lot more thirsty. He advised at the time if you want power above 200bhp go for the D300 (275 not available at Jag at the time). Basically you get the stronger performance, more refinement and a less stressed engine. When Land Rover announced the D275 it sealed the deal really ...bonus at the time is that it came with air suspension as standard. Love the combination , no regrets whatsoever.

That’s good going that Milky.

I can fill the tank to the brim and only getting 300 miles on the tank, 95% door to door short trips between 2-10 miles or thereabouts. Started off well back in March when I took delivery, was getting 400 to the tank but it’s just steadily dropped over the period from then to now. Like I say, 98% eco data figures, not using AC or anything like that, driving sensible but absolutely cannot achieve anything half decent out of a 2.0 Diesel engine. Car before this was a 1.6d brand new car and was getting 450 to a tank doing the same trips etc.

I think it was a good LR marketing move with the D275 just to introduce another price point in the range . It worked for me looking at all the stats it tempted me up from the D180/240 without what would then have been the huge price jump to the D300 ,and you got all the benefits of a V6 and were able to use the money saved from getting the D275 as opposed to the D300 to throw a few more toys on.

Good point, might backfire on JLR in future then if everyone goes for the D275 as there’s hardly any difference in economy or performance
