Adding HDMI Socket

Post by Ross-YW » Sun Mar 01, 2020 10:49 am

Hi everyone - pretty new to the forum

My Uk 2019 Velar has the dual USB slot with sim card slot and no HDMI. I would love to add the HDMI socket.

Has anyone thought/tried to replace the interface in the armrest to the one with the the hdmi slot? I found this part on eBay and JLR spares

Having looked at the pictures on the above link and attached it looks like the connections are the same as the connectors on the Non HDMI interface. These are the connectors on the non HDMI one:

As there are no extra cables running between the rear of the interfaces and the velar's internal computer i am assuming that the work is done within the interface itself? GIven the connections on the back are identical and there is nothing extra required then this should work and add HDMI right?

Is anyone out there more technically minded than me or has anyone actually changed the interface to add the HDMI slot?

Would really appreciate everyones feedback and thoughts

Cheers

I think the whole unit needs enabling if you replace it. I had one fail (same unit I believe and had HDMI) in my D5 and they had to register the replacement with their diagnostic software before it would work. Seems they are tied by VIN to the car.

That’s really useful info Simon. You’ve probably just saved me £150 and a few hours of my life! Haha

So in theory it could be replaced but would be redundant unless the software in the car was ‘flashed’ with something that would make it work?

As far as I am aware yes. But call a dealer and ask if it does need enabling / registering. Don’t want to put you off if I’m wrong or things have changed.

Also, your warranty will likely be affected too. LR don’t like post manufacture modifications like this, even if they are LR parts. The dealer may not even be able to enable it.

I've got an HDMI slot....can I ask, what will you be using it with/why do you need it? I watch stuff on the rear screens by plugging a USB stick in with content on it.

As long as you have a data sim or hotspot, you can plug in an Amazon Fire TV Stick and stream basically any content you want with the use of the remote. The stick is £40:

AT&T in the States offers unlimited data for $20, so it’s a great option for streaming.

The stick itself requires HDMI port and the ability to select it in the media source list.
