New Velar Problem

Post by DaleUK » Fri Mar 06, 2020 6:40 pm

Ok so had my Velar around 4 weeks from new and today the Tailgate decided not to shut via any of the Power Buttons!

It opens Fine but bleeps 3 Times and doesn’t shut, any ideas??
Also I’ve had to ”Manually“ shut this, would this Damage anything??
Thanks

The manual says this: -

“If an object is detected that would interfere with a tailgate closing, movement stops and then the tailgate reverses to the fully open position, if able to do so. An audible warning is given to indicate a mislock. Remove any obstructions and press the button again to close the tailgate.

After the tailgate has opened to its set height, it can be manually raised or lowered. If the tailgate fails to open or close correctly, close it manually and then press the tailgate release button again.”

Not sure if that helps but it suggests that there’s either an obstruction or it thinks there’s one. If there’s no obvious issue it could be a faulty sensor. Manually closing and pressing the open button might clear the problem.

Do you have anything connected that may drain the battery?

I had a similar problem when my dashcam was draining the battery.
The boot would only pop open and not lift, it also wouldn’t close using a power button and beeping when i tried.

So nothing in the Boot
Only thing I can think is maybe the Sensor for the Gesture Tail gate is dirty??

So had the AA out via RR assist...
He didnt and wouldn’t get involved..
So after a coffee and a quick chat he puts his empty coffee cup in the boot and looks u see the floor pan and at that moment it starts to shut..

Honestly this self fixed!!

God knows what is happening but he was more surprised then me!!

This is because the battery is drained. Close the boot manually, drive the car for a while, and you will notice the next time it is fine.
