Wireless QI Cup Charger

Post by MBF999 » Sat Nov 25, 2017 12:53 pm

Just purchased this from my LR dealer. Does not charge Samsung S8 or S7 but will do older model S6. Any ideas

Charged my wife’s iPhone 8 but no luck with my Samsung S8.
Ironically the issue from web research is the Samsung S8 not the Velar.
Fortunately my wife is the main driver on the Velar so doesn’t matter that much to me.

Wondered whether this can be fitted post delivery - I guess not?

Can it be done? Sure? Do you want to do it? I guess rather not. I’m even thinking about not letting my dealer install it before delivery. Sounds like a process they would surely mess up in some way.

I had the wireless charger installed post delivery - it is a dealer fit accessory in any case - and it has been fine. Works well too on my wife's iPhone 8.

Note you will not be able to close the centre console cup holder once it is fitted. But the utility far outweighs this in my opinion.

Are you talking about the original accessory for the Velar?

Can you please share some pictures? :) Thanks

Does it work for the iPhone Plus or X?

The picture on the Velar website is pretty good and identical to how it is installed as a dealer fit accessory
The charger holds any phone upto 73mm (not sure what the iPhone plus is) but would charge the iPhone X or 8 both of which are Qi enabled

Thanks for the picture.

Once it is installed, can you close it?

Once installed you cannot close the cup holder.

From a different thread for reference. It’s interesting the dealer said the passenger cup holder could be used for anyone interested in keeping front cup holder cover functional, though no one has confirmed they’ve done the passenger cup holder option and that the arm rest can slide over still:

I actually dropped off my Velar today to have the iPhone Dock installed. They quoted 4 hours which is not included but my salesperson offered free of charge since I had to pay for the wheel lock installation (I think he thought the dock was easier to install than the wheel locks for some reason). My car has been there for 11 hours already and they just called and said it won't be ready until tomorrow so I'm assuming its not so easy to install.

Dealer just called to ask what cup holder I would like the dock to be installed in and I said the top one with the cover. They attempted the install and called me back to say that the cup holder lid does not close with the iPhone dock in it, they said it could be installed in the passenger cup holder and that they think the arm rest will still slide over it. They also said that the instructions for the accessory say that the cup holder lid will not function with the dock installed. I rejected the installation altogether because I don't use that top cup holder so it only makes sense that the dock go in that one (and the driver has better access to the phone) and I wanted to be able to push the cover down when not in use. Such a waste of time and apparently they had to take apart my car for a lousy phone charger so I'm not happy about that! Therefore stay away from this useless accessory.
