What’s this?

Post by Fluke » Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:56 pm

Hi all - new owner, first post.

Have owned my Velar for less than a week and noticed this yesterday while out for my evening stare contest with the vehicle - just love looking at this thing!

After seeing it I crawled underneath and it looks like a drain tube of some sort. Then I found this site and looked at other owner’s pics and saw the same on a few of them... although not all.

Pic is from when the Velar was still on dealer lot before purchase.

Thoughts?

This is the P380.

At first I thought it was a straw caught up in the rear trim and I tugged on it a bit before crawling underneath to have a look... glad I didn’t pull it off because it’s clearly attached. Perhaps it just needs to be cut to level with the trim.

I have the same. I am assuming it’s an overflow pipe for either the diesel, petrol, AdBlu or all three.

Getting any of this stuff, particularly the AdBlu on the paintwork is a bad thing.

I wouldn’t cut it level with the back bumper. It is designed to protrude beyond and lower than the bumper so it doesn’t dribble all over the lover bumper area.

Best wishes,

Right... I won’t be cutting it but just wondering if others that have this where it can’t be seen from same view perhaps have theirs level with the trim.

Coincidentally yours (Arianne) was the other pic on this site where I also saw the straw.

Yes I am calling this the straw from now on. :)

Thanks.

It’s the drain from the fuel filler. I over filled and had a minor amount of excess fuel which went into the small plug hole and then started dripping out of that small pipe from the bottom.

But is it a bad assembly of my sample, or is it normal that it comes out? Aesthetically horrible!

Yes it’s the overflow for those very rare times when you somehow slightly overflow your tank. Seems to me if the fuel nozzle didn’t turn off on its own when filling, this little tube would do nothing and you would have fuel all over the side of your car anyways.

Oh well... other than looking odd it’s not hurting anything.

Only visible on some Velars so others must have shorter overflow tubes.
