Hi, I have used a sim from 3, worked great.. however my mobile phone contract is also with 3. If you don’t want 2 contracts, you can use your mobile phone and tether your velar to use your phones date. Works just as good... Simples. 😁

I don't have two contracts. I have a 30gb data SIM that was valid for 2 years for a one off charge of £40 - too good to pass up. But agree, my wife also has a 3 phone contract with unlimited data that might work just as well if tethered.

The reason we don't go that route is because we use the 3 data SIM to power the Wi-Fi hotspot in the car - and multiple devices connect to it seamlessly. Works like a charm.

Solution as mentioned earlier:
Insert the Virgin Data SIM into the slot in the central armrest of my Discovery 5
Go to <Settings>, <All settings>, <Connectivity>, <Mobile Network>, turn off <Auto network> and select <Add a new network>.
Type in “Virgin” for the network, after which one is prompted to enter “Username” and “Password”
Enter the <Username> and <Password> for your Virgin Mobile account.
Hit <Connect>.

Username is user
Password is pass

Virgin sim then works fine

There was a thread on here once (I can’t find it now) talking about the need for Three to activate the SIM (need to take it into a Three shop). Not sure how true that is, maybe someone else has more experience?

Have you activated / registered it on the myThree website ? I had to do that with my Three SIM

https://www.three.co.uk/My3Account2018/My3Login <-- Create an account here.

I also had to pop it in my phone I think form memory to receive the SMS messages you normally get with a new SIM

Well got the Three SIM working, but don't know how so have learnt nothing. For some reason the car just decided after numerous attempts it could read the SIM and then automatically changed the data settings for me, i.e to Three. I did not register the SIM. I guess at least it is working, for now.

maybe registration is only needed to turn on roaming, top it up and of course to see how much data is left ?
