Wireless Apple CarPlay
Wireless Apple CarPlay
Is there a way to use Apple CarPlay without having the phone connected ? There is other vehicles that allow using it with bluetooth?

Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
I was told by BMW (who let you connect via Bluetooth to ACP) this was because they pay an additional license fee to Apple. Don’t know if this is true or not but that’s what they told me.

Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
The wireless capability for both Android Auto and Apple Carplay requires additional hardware. It seems like we have the basic requirements for it (built in Wi-fi) but there has been 0 mentions from JLR regarding it.
- 2007 Mustang V6 Conv
- 2010 RR Sport HSE SC
- 2012 Audi A6
- 2018 RR Velar P380 First Edition
Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
I wrote a few weeks ago to this company in Delaware USA and they assured me that soon their adapter will also be available for JLR

There is no licence fee to Apple for CarPlay, tethered or wirelessly.

Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
Anyone managed to get anywhere with this?? Am a new Velar owner, and this is the one feature I really miss from my prior BMW!
Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
I bought the CarPlay2air dongle without checking if it would work with my Velar. It doesn’t.
The issue comes from how the inControl system pairs Bluetooth. It’s a one way pairing... you find Range Rover Velar on your Phone and then connect (with a pin). Whereas the carplay2air dongle broadcasts it’s own profile and needs to be selected on the car’s system as an available device. Most cars allow this, but the RR system doesn’t (probably because it’s easier the other way around and wasn’t designed for something like this)...
I can’t see any carplay2air updates making a difference, just an InControl update. Which as we all know usually take as long as a trip to mars.

Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
CPLAY2AIR is now officially compatible with 2019 and 2020 Land Rovers. I have just ordered and will report back!
Not sure what they changed but they clearly state compatibility. I just hope it is not dependent on Pivi! (though if it were I would have expected them to list specific models, not just 2019/2020)

Re: Wireless Apple CarPlay
Will it work those those markets where Apple Car was not available?
