Squeaky notices from the front passanger side

Post by Bhokray » Tue Jan 14, 2020 11:51 pm

Hello all, my first post here. I am from the UK & have a 2019 Velar D300 HSE, purchased March 2019. I still have on and off audio crackle now and again, I am on 19C software. Just after like 6 months from new have started to hear squeaky noises from my front passenger side. These noises are very random, only heard on motorway speeds, and are very irritating. Have been to 2 different dealers on 3 occasions and still hear on most days. Have any one else have the same issue. I am aware of the audio crackle, but this one is more irritating.

Would try and add a video with the noise, donon if you can hear it.
P.S Keep the phone speaker to the ear....

Upload your video to YouTube and then provide us with the link.

Keep your sanity, it’s very frustrating!

I have a number of rattles in mine. It’s due to go to the dealer in a couple of weeks for them to look at my list of issues!

Check the metal speaker cage isn’t lose. Mine are on the drivers side which cause one of my rattles.

Okay, sorry for the delay but not something I felt was appropriate to play on the train home from Edinburgh! I hate it when folk think it’s acceptable to play audio on loud speakers on a train.

Anyway, that is very annoying. I have an idea. It’s not the silver bullet you’re seeking but it may get you thinking a bit further and maybe others on the forum will chip in?

You say it only manifests itself at motorway speed. And I have listened to it.

It reminds me of a problem I had on my Volvo XC90. My issue was a light knocking, tapping, rattle sound somewhere in the dashboard. But only when driving on German Autobahn above 90mph. So annoying. Drove me nuts.

I located the problem. A loose plastic frame to which some wires were attached. At speed, the wind was causing it to knock against the bulkhead between the engine compartment and the cabin. This was what I was hearing. I secured the plastic vertical frame with a plastic tie and voila, noise gone! Man, that was a calming moment and victory for the common man!

So, back to you. If you only hear this noise at speed then I would suggest that it could very well be something loose, flapping in wind resistance. These things are tricky to find though.

Maybe lift the bonnet and have a root around to see if anything is loose or flapping about. That’s how I found the culprit. Warning: only when the engine is cold as you don’t want to burn yourself or have a fan start unexpectedly!

If it’s behind the door card then don’t mess with it. You will need to be patient and have your dealer do it. But upload the best quality video you can to YouTube and then let them view it via a link in an email. The technician will thank you for it.

My only other suggestion, which I don’t think applies in your case, is that my Volvo technician would always try and find a rattle by driving the car at too low revs in a higher gear. The resulting resonance through the car teased the rattles out and helped him find them. You really need two people to do it as one should focus on driving while the other tries to find the rattle or squeak. But I think your issue is wind related.

Let us know. Maybe others have some thoughts?

Best wishes,

Arianne

That’s very helpful guys. The car is booked at the dealer next month, I wish and hope they sort it this time. Have anyone else had this issue in their Velar.
