Disconnect battery (holidays)

Post by liben96 » Thu Oct 10, 2019 9:15 am

Hi all.

I'm sure most of you are aware of the battery drain that a lot of owners are experiencing.

I was wondering, to avoid having a drained battery when i get back from my vacation (3 weeks), i thought i might disconnect the battery..., this will avoid the battery drain.

Will I cause another issue when I get back? Did anyone do this before? Can you explain me how I can do it...?

Thanks

Not sure about issues from battery disconnection, but have you thought about using a maintenance charger or as I see you live in Spain, a solar charger.

I have used CTEK chargers for my motorbikes for years, and even after sitting all winter, they start first time.

The car is in a private/public garage, so I can use a maintenance charger because I don't have where to connect it... :(

Don't panic. I left my car for two weeks in a garage as I was on business trip and car was just fine when I came back. No pop-up about low battery level.

Have you checked your battery is generally OK? I’ve only got this message when I’ve been sat in the car with the ignition on. The two occasions I’ve left the car for 3-4 days I’ve had no issues or messages.

They replaced the battery a few months ago... but i still get the message every 3-4 days.
Last time I used the car was on Sunday, ... today I got the message again.
I dont think it is normal....

That does seem really odd! I’d get them to check it out.

My car has been in the garage for 3 weeks now, no problem, but I returned from >1500km trip, so may be it charged to the max. Problems usually appear when you used in in the city, starting the car takes more than the recharge during use. Had this problem with my mazda 6. Twice, and once they had to replace the battery (next time I just charged it).
