whistling noise at low speed after star up from cold

Post by jimmytherazor » Wed Feb 05, 2020 9:32 pm

I experience a whistling noise in the cabin at low speed after a cold start. This disappears and a whining noise is apparent at higher speeds usually when my foot is taken off the accelerator
So far, a new rear differential has been fitted but the problems persist.
Any ideas?

I’ve not had any of that but I do sometimes get a whining noise coming from the passenger seat when I stick my foot on the accelerator

Might be worth telling us what engine variant you have under the bonnet. They all make slightly different sounds (fuel, supercharger, turbocharger etc.) and then it’s easier for others on this forum to offer an observation or share their experience.

Having said that, mine is a D300 V6 and I don’t have any of those noises. Ours is very quiet, especially when she has warmed up a bit.

Maybe others can help, especially if you feed them more information.

I’ve got the same. Started around 9000 miles but more like a whine. Heard balancer shaft issues can make this sound which is common with the D180 which I have. Got it booked in end of Feb to be checked by dealer. Possibly engine out repair job if so!! Will be 6th time car has been in if that’s the case!

I have the 3 litre diesel SE
My car is going back to the dealer for further investigation.
I have had one of the engineers accompany me on a test drive and despite replacing the rear differential the noise persists and he could not explain what it was.
He suggested it may be the fuel pump which is located under the back seat- we will see!
The whistling noise at low speed is only evident at around 25/30MPH after a cold start and seems to disappear after a few miles

Hello,
maybe the attached file will help you with your appointment in the workshop.
The problem is described there.
The howling probably comes from the high pressure pump.

Almost certain to be balance shaft and bearings a common known problem with the Ingenium engine. Engine out job which ours had at 7000 miles but it cured the whine and vibration when accelerating.
