Movies/Netflix

Post by BootneckShuffle » Mon Feb 10, 2020 6:46 pm

Hi all,

I’m sure this topic has been covered before but still don’t have a definitive answer.

As we all know, the MY19 Velars do not have the HDMI slot.

Question is, has anyone had any success in watching any content on the infotainment system and if so how exactly. I’ve tried Netflix through browser and got chinned off as soon as I tried playing something. Haven’t tried playing movies or anything from a USB stick, has anyone had success with that at all?

Would love to hear from anyone that’s cracked the above.

Thanks .

Amazon fire stick works fine and you can use the remote.

Thanks for the reply

So that works without the HDMI?

Just straight into USB?

Can you please give us more info please?
Is it connected via USB?
Once connected, what do you do to launch the amazon app?

You plug the stick into the hdmi and power it up with the USB socket.

You plug the stick into the hdmi and power it up with the USB socket.

To launch it you just select the hdmi input as the source on the velar screen. Then just use the remote.

I did point out in my original post that there is no HDMI slot in the MY19 Velar.

There may be of course HDMI slots in previous years vehicles but my understanding is that JLR done away with the HDMI slot from MY19 onwards.

So.......still looking for a way to play Netflix without HDMI, and/or a method of playing movies in the car.

Take a look at this. https://youtu.be/nxAKWi9Lcfs?t=161 It seems to be a rooted Android phone which allows you (if you actually have Android Auto in your Velar) to mirror your screen. That way it should be possible to have Netflix open on the car screen though I'm not sure how well it would work while the car was moving... not that I'm suggesting anyone watch Netflix while driving. ;)

Also, if you're happy just watching files off a USB stick, I copied a couple 1080p DD5.1 .mkv files on my USB drive and the car played it just fine. Once you start driving though the screen exits into 'home' - but audio continues to play while driving.
