Should I buy

Post by Nelly25 » Sun Aug 02, 2020 8:19 pm

Looking at a test drive tomorrow of a D240 dynamic R HSE

Looking for some advise on what to look out for and questions to ask.

It’s done just over 14000 miles on a 19 plate.

Uk buy.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanx.

You should buy as the Velar is a great car and I am on my second. Important to check out the previous use the car has had particularly if you are buying an Ex JLR owned car. Not all the OV,OW OE OY registered Cars that the dealers have are all ex management cars as advertised and some have had a chequered history as Ex daily rentals and 14000 miles on a 19 plate is above average. I have just bought an OW 19 plate 10K miles Velar HSE D250 fully loaded but was able to verify that it was indeed a JLR managers car and was as new with a huge saving. I paid £42500 which was a steal for a car that with all its extras lists at just over £62K so there are some bargains about. Best of luck and welcome.

Mostly LR management cars are moved on after 10-12K miles I think. Mine had done 8.5K and was ‘released’ early as LR made an error with the car I was going to have.

If you try the D240, drive in Comfort mode for a while. Get used to the throttle response and kick down acceleration. If you can the cornering.

Then flick it to Dynamic mode and S on the gear shifter. You should notice quite a change in behaviour ;) It’s really quite nippy and easily swung round tight bends. Quite surprised at how sprites a ‘mere’ 4 pot diesel can be on such a large car.

Spencerwilks

How did you confirm it was a LR car and not a loan car ?

I made the dealer show me the internal website on screen where the ex JLR cars are listed for sale to their own dealer network. Against each car it states the source detail and source and mine said Management and some of the others had Rental, Dealer Warranty Replacement, Internal Sales (meaning customer experience days) etc

Same here except I was invited to look at the current list to see what was on offer to move from my D5.

As mentioned, best to check as well as ask for the service history and warranty claim history.

Have you considered the D275? A much better engines and not that much different on mpg. The extra in my opinion was well worth it.

When I started looking I was originally looking at a 180 but then wanted a 275. I ended up with a D300 and I have no regrets. It's also an ex LR management car and likewise I sat with the dealer and went through their list. It's a great car and i still find new things with it and I have had it since Feb 2020.

I have the D240 and really like it. The D300 is beautiful but my budget didn’t stretch that far.

As others said, get use to Comfort then try Dynamic mode. The difference is amazing and great fun on open roads.

Check the history to make sure it’s not a rejected car I would say and push for as much warranty as you can get.

Let us know how you get on.
