I’m sure they can run a diagnostic on it but my start point would be the car is sold with 33 miles range and this was shown when I collected the car. Therefore, 33 miles x 70% = 23 miles. If the car is showing less than 23 miles fully charged and before use, then the battery has degraded more than the warranted amount and should be changed.

I think the reported range is a better basis as everyone drives differently and the effect of temp etc. means actual range is pretty meaningless to claim on. I think the JLR HV batteries are modular so I am sure they would only replace defective modules to bring the capacity over 70%, rather than replace the whole battery for new.

One reason I went with the Velar is the warranty covers degradation, my previous Merc’s only had warranty against a total failure due to manufacturing defects which I think rendered that a waste of space. My BMW had a similarly worded get out clause in the HV warranty.

I'd be interested to know if PHEV battery warranties follow full EV usual warranties (what is it 8 years and 20% degradation or something? Legislation in some places.).

From LR (UK) webpage:
"For your peace of mind, we guarantee the battery in your Land Rover PHEV for 6 years or 60,000 miles – whichever comes first. And while it’s under warranty, our EV experts will fix any material defects free of charge.
In fact, the rare occurrence of a battery issue is generally caused by a single cell. The module containing this cell can easily be replaced to return the pack to its peak performance."

LR (USA) on the PHEV page says 8 years but I suspect they're referring to a full EV.

I'd keep an eye on it to see if it's just a 'learning' anomaly or the display. Otherwise straight back to LR for a fresh expensive battery which will, I suspect, be a right old wrestling match.
They'll try and blame your charging regime or say it's a it cold. Actually it is a bit cold.

Thanks for that, it confirms what I though that the battery is modular. The iGuide confirms the warranty - PHEV traction battery warranty: 6 years or 100,000 km, whichever is sooner, and 70% State of Health (SOH).

It‘s definitely not a display or ‘learning’ issue as the range has reduced over the 11 months I have had the car. It could be a software issue where all the battery is not being accessed - BMW introduced a software limiter where only 80% was available as that improves the overall life of the battery. After being told that by a BMW guy, I then realised full EV’s details include the charge time to 80% as it takes a disproportionate amount of time to charge the final 20%.

I don’t think that it is a software issue as others on here are achieving 30+ miles.

My Jan 22 D300 is still on OS 2.1.7b with no sign of software update to 3.0 let alone 3.2.

After contacting JLR customer service they asked the dealer to make contact and car is booked in tomorrow for a ‘forced’ update through their diagnostic system.

My wife has 3.2.0 on her Evoque so be good to have similar system 🤞🤞

Well - dealer says all done and ready to collect. Couldn’t get there in time tonight so will see first thing in the morning.

Strange update!
I called at dealers only to find they said software was current at 2.1.7b and it says so in settings. However they did say that wireless CarPlay was not working (not supposed to work until OS3.0) so they had reset on their Pathfinder diagnostic and all was working now!

I checked car and sure enough I now have wireless CarPlay, Amazon Alexa and the bottom display has switched round like on OS 3.0…. But I still have 2.1.7b.

have given up trying to work it out!!

Very strange! Apple car play and Alexa are available from version 3.0! if the dealer has updated the software and you have Apple C.P and Alexa, it could be that you now have 3.0 but the display is not showing correctly .. Before the last update, my Velar did not show any software version .. it is now stopped at 2.1.6b (from March 30)

Could it be that the update was not done OTA but via a cable at the dealers. Very strange having Alexa as that came with version 3.02 !

I’m getting much longer range this week, I’ve put it down to the warmer weather, I got into work today, 27 miles of ev on the app and still had 9 miles range. Same in the way home.

Yesterday in warm weather and al local driving got 20 miles and battery completely depleted. I will have a word with the dealer but already looking at buying an alternative and definitely not a RR. I have had the car 11 months and it’s been one issue after another - I was offered an Audi ETron Sportback for £ 5k less than the Velar. It was a demo with only 500 miles on it. I couldn’t get along with the cameras instead of mirrors - I really wished I had persevered

Today I took delivery of a 55 Black Edition etron SUV. Absolute beaut of a car. Build quality is phenomenal, and ride quality is something else. Never driven such a smooth and well refined car! For a huge lump it handles really well, plenty quick enough too! I ordered back in December, so took around 4 months to arrive.

Will be selling my Velar next week. I too have experienced issue after issue with mine. The Velar was my first and last JLR car.

Matty- I regret not going with the ETron - have you got the cameras instead of wing mirrors. I just couldn’t adjust to looking down to the mini screen and was concerned how they would deal with rain and ice. Cracking car though.

Good luck with the car - I’m sure that unlike the Velar you won’t have any issues to Mar what is a great car.

I debated about the mirrors for a while, but just couldn’t get on board with them either. I had a demonstrator for two days so had plenty of time with the virtual mirrors. 25 years of looking in a certain direction to see your mirrors is hard to wipe from your memory! Mate of mine has them and regrets spec’ing them everyday.

Would definitely be worth speaking with your local dealers to see what’s in the Audi network at the moment. You’ll get good money for your Velar. Or, ordering new won’t take as long as quoted. I ordered another etron in October and that was going to be delivered 3 months to the day (cancelled that order just before delivery). Only thing is, you can’t order a pan roof or wireless charging at the moment.

Thanks. I’ll take a look - be hard to want to order without a pan roof. Having had 6 Merc’s before I am also considering the new EQE although it’s not a SUV so I’ll have to make sure I can get in and out ok. I had an E350e previously and liked the car but it was a bit low now I am over 65 !
